Total Solar DG and SLNG sign solar agreement
Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd (SLNG) and Total Solar Distributed Generation (DG) have signed an agreement for solar power to be implemented at the Singapore LNG Terminal on Jurong Island.
Under the agreement, Total Solar DG will finance, build and operate a 600 kWp rooftop solar power system, which will be installed on the rooftops of several buildings at the Terminal.
The installation of the solar panels is part of SLNG’s slew of initiatives under its Green Strategy, and is expected to be completed by 4Q2020. This rooftop solar power system will generate around 800 MWh of renewable energy and has the potential to avoid an estimated 300 tpy of carbon dioxide emissions.
For comparison, the average monthly household electricity consumption of a four-room public housing in Singapore is around 354 KWh1; and it takes an estimated 4900 trees to sequester 300 t of carbon dioxide2.
Mr Tan Soo Koong, Chief Executive Officer of SLNG, said, “SLNG is committed to doing its part to help fight climate change and promote environmental sustainability; and the use of solar energy at our Terminal is just a modest first step. We are also actively exploring ways to catalyse the use of LNG and other green energy alternatives.
“For one, we are looking into collaborations to develop new infrastructure in Singapore to promote the use of LNG as a cleaner marine fuel. For another, we are working with various partners to develop technologies related to the importation, transportation and storage of hydrogen.”
“Total Solar DG puts Health, Safety and Environment first. Our projects are built and operated with best-in-class techniques and processes. We are proud to be trusted by SLNG to implement such a prestigious project.
“Total Solar DG has unique experience delivering solar for complex, high-risk environments. This comes from Total Group’s 100-year experience operating energy assets across the world. We are pleased to be SLNG’s partner of choice, to help cut costs and carbon emissions, without compromising on safety,” said Mr Gavin Adda, Chief Executive Officer of Total Solar DG Southeast Asia.
