Kvaerner continues Njord A platform overhaul

Upgrades to Equinor’s Njord A semi-submersible production platform are progressing to plan, according to contractor Kvaerner.

This is part of a programme to extend the life of facilities in the Njord field area of the Norwegian Sea.

The drilling derrick and compensator module have been reinstalled onboard the platform following modifications.

All four blisters and column top extensions have been fabricated, pre-outfitted and installed, while pre-outfitting is under way of the newly fabricated deck boxes/winch houses.

Heavy lifts will continue until this spring with remaining upgrades to follow up to the scheduled delivery of the platform in 2020.

Kvaerner is also close to delivering the Johan Sverdrup utilities and living quarter topsides, and is at the same time performing hook-up and completion work on the already installed riser platform at the field centre in the North Sea.

Among the company’s other ongoing offshore projects are construction work on the landfall and pig trap area for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project in Russia, set to continue into 2020; and engineering and preparation work in Newfoundland for tow-out and installation of Husky Energy’s West White Rose field concrete gravity structure.

This project is due to be completed in spring 2022.
