Eni, INA consider trans-Adriatic gas system

Eni and INA have signed a memorandum of understanding to evaluate jointly a potential gas interconnector between Italy and Croatia.

The aim is to extend the use of existing infrastructure – until now dedicated solely to offshore gas production activities in the upper Adriatic Sea – to gas transport between the two countries.

The interconnection would increase the degree of integration, security of supply, competitiveness and sustainability of the Croatian and Italian markets, Eni claimed, as the infrastructure would be able to operate reverse flows.

It would also help strengthen Italy’s position as a gas hub in Europe.
