Development starts for West White Rose offshore Newfoundland

Construction has started on the facilities for the Husky Energy-operated West White Rose project offshore Newfoundland.

Work should be completed in 2021, followed by first oil in 2022, with peak production of 75,000 b/d three years later as more development wells are drilled and brought online.

At the same time, Husky is pursuing a subsea development well programme at the White Rose field and satellite extensions. This year’s schedule includes infill wells and workovers at the White Rose and North Amethyst fields.

Later in the current quarter a three-week turnaround should get under way on the SeaRose FPSO, with a four-week turnaround to follow this summer on the Terra Nova FPSO, also offshore Newfoundland.

In the South China Sea, Husky expects three wells to be drilled during the fourth quarter at the Liuhua 29-1 field (four have already been drilled), with first gas anticipated around the end of 2020.

Production will be tied directly into the existing Liwan subsea infrastructure and the Gaolan gas plant and delivered to buyers in the Pearl River Mouth basin area.

Last month an exploration well was spudded in block 15/33 in the same basin, with a second well due to follow shortly. Two wells are also planned later this year on the nearby block 16/25.

Finally, at the combined MDA-MBH fields offshore in the Madura Strait, Husky expects seven production wells to be drilled later this year.
