Compressor boosts production from Kupe offshore New Zealand
Beach Energy has started up a new compressor which will increase production at the Kupe gas processing plant close to New Plymouth, New Zealand.
The US$72-million compression project will allow production at the facility, which processes gas from the Kupe field in the Taranaki basin, 30 km (19 miles) offshore the North Island, to return to its full capacity, supplying 15% of New Zealand’s natural gas demand.
Reducing back pressure on the wells extends the production plateau.
Beach expects to start planning next year for a potential Kupe East development well within the Kupe field which could be drilled in 2023, subject to partner and regulatory approvals.
