CNOOC starts up new phase of oilfield off China
Chinese oil and gas giant CNOOC Limited has started production from the Weizhou 11-2 oilfield phase II project located in Chinese waters.
The Weizhou 11-2 oilfield phase II project is located in Beibu Gulf in the South China Sea with water depth of about 40 metres.
In addition to fully utilising the existing processing facilities of Weizhou 11-2 oilfield, the project has built one simple unmanned wellhead platform. A total of 13 development wells are planned, including seven production wells and six water injection wells.
The project is expected to reach its peak production of approximately 6,000 barrels of crude oil per day in 2022.
CNOOC Limited holds 100 per cent interest in Weizhou 11-2 oilfield phase II project and acts as the operator.
Last week, CNOOC started production from China’s first offshore large-sized independent deep-water gas field, Lingshui 17-2 gas field.
The Lingshui 17-2 gas field is located in the Qiongdongnan Basin, in the South China Sea with water depth of approximately 1,560 metres.
It was the first large-sized deep-water discovery, with proven geological resources of natural gas exceeding 100 billion cubic metres, made by independent exploration, proving the great potential of the deep-water area of the South China Sea.
