ReconAfrica secures rig for 3-well drilling programme in Kavango basin, Namibia

Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd (ReconAfrica) has secured a rig to execute the company’s Kavango basin drilling programme in north-east Namibia.

The primary objective of the initial three-well programme is to penetrate key source rocks within the Karoo Supergroup providing evidence of an active petroleum system throughout the Kavango Sedimentary Basin.

Secondary objectives are to assess oil and gas prone conventional targets.

Acquired from Henderson Rigs, the all-in cost for the Crown 750 with ancillary equipment to acclimate the rig for drilling in the Kalahari Desert is US$3 million.

The unused, US-manufactured rig is rated to drill 12,000 vertical feet.

The rig will be shipped by sea from the Port of Houston to the Port of Walvis Bay, Namibia where it will then be transported by paved highway to the licence area.

The rig is expected to be on the first drilling location in June.

ReconAfrica holds a 90% working interest in petroleum licenses in northeast Namibia comprising 6.3 million contiguous acres.
