Trion appraisal well offshore Mexico confirms oil

BHP’s first appraisal well on the deep-water Trion field offshore Mexico has encountered oil.

The Trion-2DEL well started drilling last November in block AE-0093.

A side track was spudded on the 4^th January, the aims being to appraise the field further and to locate the oil/water contact.

This is the first deep-water well in the Mexican sector drilled by a foreign operator.

Elsewhere, BHP says it is progressing studies for the Ruby project in Trinidad and Tobago.
