Staatsolie lets contract for seismic programmes offshore Suriname

Suriname state-owned Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname NV (Staatsolie) has let a contract to a consortium of CGG, TGS, and BGP Offshore to acquire, promote, and licence multi-client seismic programmes, including new 3D acquisition and legacy data reprocessing, in the shallow water acreage offshore Suriname.

The acreage includes three blocks recently awarded, and current open acreage slated to be offered in a competitive bid round for 2023. The new seismic data will be instrumental in delineating the prospectivity and potential of this underexplored area and is on trend with recent discoveries on Block 58, CGG said in a release on the 20th October.

In June, Staatsolie noted most favourable bids for the shallow offshore bid round 2020/2021 came from Chevron Exploration Suriname Ltd for Block 5, and a consortium of TotalEnergies and Qatar Petroleum for Block 6 and Block 8.

The company received ten bids for three of the eight blocks on offer.

Acquisition of the new 3D seismic data is expected to begin in this year’s fourth quarter with first products available in first-half 2022.
