Reconnaissance Energy explores working petroleum system in Kavango basin

Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd (ReconAfrica) has obtained geologic results in the first section of Well 6-1 in Kavango sedimentary basin, Kalahari Desert, north-east Namibia.

The well is the second of an initial three-well programme to evaluate a working conventional hydrocarbon system confirmed by the first well (6-2) in the basin, 16 km to the south.

Based on initial analysis of this first section, the well shows 134 metre (440 foot) of light oil and gas which are similar in character to shows in the 6-2 well. The results confirm a working conventional petroleum system.

ReconAfrica set and cemented 17 ½-inch surface casing at 150 metres, reached the intermediate casing point, set 12 ¼-inch steel casing, and has completed cementing operations.

With the completion of intermediate casing, the company is on schedule to finish drilling operations by end-June 2021.

Thirty-seven sidewall cores have been taken from the first section of the well and are in transit to Core Labs. Results from this well programme will be used to finalize analysis of 6-2. Complete analysis of these two wells is expected by end-July.

An upcoming 2D seismic survey will tie in data from these two wells and provide the first regional interpretation of the overall basin.

ReconAfrica holds a 90% working interest in petroleum licences in north-east Namibia comprising 6.3 million contiguous acres.
